Gah– I can’t remember a (recent) time when I’ve felt so infested and crusty… I came home early from work on Tuesday afternoon with a tickle in my throat, went into work on Wednesday morning like a martyr (or like an idiot, I can’t decide), left even earlier on Wednesday afternoon, stayed home on Thursday feeling like death had taken up residence inside my chest, and am still home today, hoping that death will not crash for too long inside my supple lung tissues. Such a slow and painful way to live!!
Maybe the excitement of scoring 4th ROW SEATS to the Depeche concert in August was too much for my girlish heart to bear. (CAN’T. WAIT!!!) Or perhaps my body just decided that it needed a few days to lie down, much like a vampire lies down in its coffin, without any: food, light, sound (not even Depeche Mode), bathing, or blinking. It even hurts to read! Gah….
This is my second stint of multiple sick days in less than a month now (not even counting my recent vomithon!), and I certainly don’t plan to keep this up if I can help it. I’m hoping that my steady diet of oregano oil, echinacea, Vitamin C, Czech “Prsni Caj” (Chest Tea) and the occasional teaspoon of Buckley’s will help me overcome this nastiness in no time. I don’t think I can stand even one more day off like this.
(PS: A funny but tangential story about Prsni Caj (pronounced “PERS-nyee Chai”): the word “prs” in Czech literally means “breast”, so when Marty’s mom sent us a whole box full of herbal/medicinal Prsni Caj, we didn’t know what to think. “Breast Tea??!”, we silently mouthed to ourselves when we read the label. Marty was scared to drink any, lest he end up with man boobs, and I was worried that I would end up with either much BIGGER or much SMALLER breasts if I drank it, neither of which really appealed to me. So the box kind of festered away for a few months in our tea cupboard, completely unopened and untouched. We eventually discovered that this tea is actually Chest tea, intended for use with chest colds and coughs, and indeed, it works wonders for chest congestion. But you just never know in advance with some of these zany Czech remedies… they have a medicinal tea for just about everything, so it wouldn’t surprise me if an actual “Breast Tea” exists somewhere out there. Anyway, back to bed for me. Be good and stay healthy, kids.)

The breast tea made me laugh. Thanks, Mom xoxo
